The dive

Overview

The Pit plunges over 130 metres into the earth. Divers descend through gin-clear freshwater, past a hovering hydrogen sulphide cloud at 30m that resembles an underwater storm. Light beams cut down from a single opening above, illuminating ancient stalactites and the bones of long-extinct fauna preserved in the silt.
